1. Get your blank page in front of you. Paper or on-screen, it doesn’t matter.
2. Write a “dummy sentence” at the top. Mine is, “And then The EBG opened his mouth and spoke without thinking as usual, and said…”.
3. Then, speaking to yourself in the first person, write the answer to this question… “What do I want to accomplish on this page?”
4. That’s all. Takes about 20 seconds to set up and works like magic
A great quote I heard recently was this.
“We are not in the coffee business serving people, but in the people business serving coffee. Howard Schultz, Founder and CEO of Starbucks.
When you think about it, every company should realise this. Simply replace the word coffee with your company’s product or service and it pretty much sums up what you do (or should do).
Sadly some companies don’t get this. They think making the sale is more important than building long term relationships; or as my sister in law told me; the mission statement the hairdressing company she’s working with at the moment proudly displays in their salon says, “To Make a Profit.”
Now there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact it’s a given that you need to make a profit, otherwise you go bust. But making a profit is a by-product of success and success comes from keeping your customers happy.
Think about it. How many companies that offers a rubbish service, stay in business? (Actually, I can think of a couple that are an exception to the rule; I stopped buying from them a long time ago and can never understand why people complain about them yet continue to buy from them).
Anyway having a goal like, Being the best in our field. Or, Going out of our way to make our customers happy is what every company should strive for.
