Ever have those times when you just can’t get it right?
Happened to me one time a couple of years ago and if it wasn’t for the eagle eyes and brilliant service of Pauline and Graham, the guys who print my newsletters, that one edition would have been a bit of a disaster.
Usually, I hand a copy to a few of my team to check for typos and errors before it goes to the printer. But that time, because they were all busy and I couldn’t wait, I thought I’d check it myself.
Here’s a tip for you:
Whenever you create important copy, get someone else to check it. Sometimes you just don’t see the obvious stuff as you’ll find out in a minute.
Ok, so I read all four pages, spotted and fixed a few typos, and emailed it to Graham of SBS printers.
A few hours later I received an email; “…customer of the month bit looks wrong? Regards Graham.”
So, I checked it. “Looks fine to me,” I said to myself. Then Graham pointed out the howler.
I hadn’t changed the name of the previous month’s customer of the month, so the article was all about Felicity and I’d called her Brian.
The following day, two more clangers (two embarrassing to explain) were spotted and fixed.
Now, that’s what I call amazing service. They took the trouble to glance over the copy and check for errors.
