Promotional Products and Bad Marketing

If it seems too good to be true, it usually is.

Take, for example a product launched in the early ‘90’s called GLH – Hair in a Can.

The manufacturers claimed:

“GLH is the very latest breakthrough and contains almost life-like fibers that instantly give added body to your hair.

GLH will take away that wispy look. Fill in those thin see-through spots and for men it can even cover bald spots. It’s like instant hair in a can.”

Actually, it’s just spray paint.

And it does exactly what you’d expect spray paint to do if you sprayed your head with it.

Before I share the short, but hilarious video promoting it with claims from happy “customers” such as…

“My wife’s got herself a new guy now, I’m impressed.”

“I wanna order one years supply of this.”

…here are a couple of reviews that the manufacturers probably wouldn’t want people to see:

“I regretted buying this product. The hair was sticky, stiff and messy, and it did not feel natural at all.”

Yes because it’s paint!

And this one, that kinda gives you a few tips on what to look out for when painting your head black:

“Even after two or three hours in your hair, if you touch the back of your head… you will have black marks on your fingers… Don’t brush up against anything…make sure you wash it out before you go to bed or you will blacken your sheets and pillow. Wish it dried better.”

Anyway, here’s the short, side-splitting video.

Now the reason I’m sharing this with you is because the same thing can happen when you go off looking for promotional product ideas to wow your customers.

Sometimes the product looks like it’ll get you noticed for all the right reasons but could end up being a total marketing, bad paint job.

So I’d like to help you find that perfect promotional product; that wow factor item that your customers will love and cherish and remember you for all the right reasons.

Are you struggling to find that picture-perfect promotional product that ticks all your boxes? Is there something that you’ve hunted high and low for and just can’t get your hands on it? Would you like me to give you an expert helping hand?
