It’s actually not that difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Imagine going to a trade show of promotional products where there are 873 exhibitors from 38 countries and having to work out who to see and who to avoid. It’s impossible to spend time on every stand that looks promising and it’s also easy to miss those small stands that might just be the sort of supplier you’re looking for.
I’ve worked out a great way to be able to find the best and waste hardly anytime on the worst.
I got a hang of this two years ago when we went to this trade show in Germany.
First, you need a clear idea of why you’re there and what you want from it. For me, it was to find new suppliers for three specific types of promotional products.
When you come across a stand that looks promising, go on and ask to see their range. If they have a clear, professional and passionate way of presenting their range, stay with them. If they flit about a bit, make an excuse for having to leave and get out fast. Chances are their lack of effectiveness could reflect on the service they give.
It’s unbelievable that so many suppliers at exhibitions didn’t have a clue how to attract people onto their stand. Sitting down and looking glum didn’t do it for me. Neither did having most of the products at the front and making it difficult to actually get on the stand float my boat either.
You also need to work fast. Usually walking up and down aisles for a few hours, trying to take in everything around you eventually results in a kind of Snow Blindness. You start walking almost in a trance. When this happens, stop immediately! Impersonating a zombie is not productive.
Anyway, that was a mission accomplished. We found some amazing suppliers and some incredibly, mind-boggling promotional products that year.
We are always on the lookout for the out-of-this-world promotional products and we don’t stick only at tradeshows. We go into every nook and cranny to look for the promotional products that will suit you!
